ABOUT US

My name is Dané Dennie. I am a mother of two adult children and one teenager, as well as the delighted grandmother of Audrie, age two. When my granddaughter was born, her parents wanted to have her in a quality program, but had trouble finding what they wanted. I chose to develop the kind of program she and other children could prosper in together, both socially and intellectually. As a licensed family child care provider, and early childhood educator, I know the newly developing State of California educational guidelines for children going into Kindergarten, and my program provides exposure and practice in every area of preparatory curriculum.

I offer a half-day preschool program because I have lots of energy for the children in the morning. It also suits my professional needs because I teach private piano lessons in the afternoons, and I want to continue to offer that service to the community. A half-day program also suits my family, we enjoy our family time in the late afternoons and evenings.

As a family we enjoy trips to the coast, and to Yosemite. We can often be found at Shaver Lake or Millerton, out on the lake, water skiing. At home, we have BBQ’s and swim parties with family and friends. We belong to The Bridge Evangelical Free church in Fresno, and I am an alumna of Fresno State University and Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority. I belong to the California Association of Early Childhood Educators and the Fresno Family Child Care Association. I am also listed in the Fresno Children’s Services Network Findcare directory.

I chose the name, Children’s Hour Preschool in honor of the poem, The Children’s Hour, by Henry Wadworth Longfellow. I learned it as a child, and its tenderness toward children touches my heart. I want each parent to know that I will cherish their child, and handle them with care, and once they are in my care, they will forever have a place in my heart.

The Children's Hour

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
February 27, 1807-March 24, 1882

Between the dark and the daylight,
When the light is beginning to lower,
Comes a pause in the day’s occupations
That is know as the Children’s Hour.

I hear in the chamber above me
The patter of little feet,
The sound of a door that is opened,
And voices soft and sweet.

From my study I see in the lamplight,
Descending the broad hall stair,
Grave Alice and laughing Allegra,
And Edith with golden hair.

A whisper, and then a silence;
Yet I know by their merry eyes,
They are plotting and planning together
To take me by surprise.

A sudden rush from the stairway,
A sudden raid from the hall!
By three doors left unguarded
They enter my castle wall!

They climb up into my turret,
O’er the arms and back of my chair;
If I try to escape, they surround me;
They seem to be everywhere.

They almost devour me with kisses,
Their arms about me entwine,
Till I think of the Bishop of Bingen
In his Mouse Tower on the Rhine.

Do you think, O blue-eyed banditti,
Because you have scaled the wall,
Such an old mustache as I am
Is not a match for you all?

I have you fast in my fortress,
And will not let you depart,
But put you down in the dungeon
In the round-tower of my heart.

And there I will keep you forever,
Yes, forever and a day,
Till the wall shall crumble to ruin,
And moulder to dust away.
